Cooking with Herbs and Spices
Whether you grow an herb garden or you purchase dried herbs and spices from the local grocery store, these ingredients pack a powerful punch adding flavor to many different recipes. They are also a great tool to help you create healthier meals at home. You can reduce or eliminate added salt, sugar, and saturated fats from recipes by adding in various herbs and spices that complement the dish.Tips for using herbs & spices:
- Store dried herbs in a cool, dark place like a pantry or cabinet away from heat sources.
- Hold containers away from hot, cooking foods when you're adding them to a recipe. If not, the steam can enter the container adding moisture to your dried herb or spice.
- Add fresh herbs to cold dishes and chill in refrigerator for 2-3 hours before serving. This allows to the flavors to meld together.
