About this Event

Participants must attend one informational session to participate in the Randolph Backyard Gardener Course and/or the NC Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program. These courses are intended for adult learners. All sessions will be held on Zoom. You will receive a Zoom link to the event upon registration. We look forward to meeting you!

Sessions will be held at the following dates and times. You can choose what works for you.

January 14, 2021 | 9:00 - 11:00 AM

January 20, 2021 | 6:30 - 8:30 PM

January 28, 2020 | 9:00 - 11:00 AM

The Randolph Backyard Gardener Course will be a 6-week course open to the public that covers the basics of gardening. Topics will include: soils, lawns, landscaping basics, vegetable, fruit, and herb production, pest management and more! Four of six classes must be attended to receive a Randolph Gardener certificate. All sessions of this course must be completed before entering the N.C. Extension Master Gardener program. This course will be held during the winter of 2021.

The N.C. Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program will be a more in-depth 8-week course to become a trained horticulture volunteer for Randolph County Cooperative Extension. Topics covered will include: botany, houseplants, insects, weeds, diseases, and wildlife management, lawns, landscape maintenance, pesticide use and safety, plant propagation, protection of water quality, soils/fertilizer management, vegetables, fruit, and nut production and more. Participants must attend all 8 classes and have availability to complete 40 hours of volunteer service in the community focused on horticulture education within a year of their training. This course will take place during the fall of 2021.
