Growing your own fruit and vegetables is fun, but growing your own culinary mushrooms is possible in the home garden, too! Culinary mushrooms such as shiitake, oyster, lion’s mane, and many more can be grown on logs in your very own backyard.

To get into growing shiitake and other log-cultivated culinary mushrooms you need very few tools! A cordless drill, drill bit(s), and a chainsaw are about it. With these basic tools, and the necessary supplies you need from a reputable supplier you too can grow your own culinary mushrooms!

To learn more about growing culinary mushrooms in your backyard, consider joining a workshop offered by N.C. Cooperative Extension, Randolph County Center. In these workshops, you’ll learn the basic knowledge behind log-species selection, culinary mushroom variety selection, the log inoculation process, and more! You’ll also get to put your newly-learned skills to work and inculate a log to take home with you! To regsiter, visit the links below:
