Collapse ▲With the now tropical storm approaching directly towards our area, it is extremely important to take all precautions to ensure the safety of livestock. The weather is calling for rain and winds to be moving in as the day moves on. Totals from 3-8 inches have been expected as well as wind gusts ranging from 20-40 mph, depending on weather source.
Flooding may occur in bottoms, flood plains or around creeks and rivers. If you are interested in seeing flood plains in Randolph County, they are available on the county GIS website (Click Map Themes > Flood Plains). This will indicate possible stream and river flooding. However, it should be noted that flash flooding can occur in any low lying area in a short period of time.
Some considerations to think about for the storm:
- If your livestock are in fields that could possibly flood, please try and move them to higher ground
- Try and move your livestock away from wooded areas and areas that might have a lot of debris laying around to protect them from the wind
- Stock up on the essentials like feed, water, fuel and other needed items
- If you have a generator make sure it’s fueled and running
- Keep your trucks and tractors ready to go if need
- Do not go out into the storm or cross strong current water, our animals lives are important, but it is not worth risking yours or your families.
