New for 2024 in Randolph County is a Greenhouse Growers’ Meeting. This meeting will be hosted on June 5th, 2024 at the NC Zoo in their multi-purpose training center and will feature talks from industry specialists and N.C. Cooperative Extension personnel. As the industry grows in Randolph and surrounding counties this group will grow and maintain providing education to the area’s greenhouse industry.

Below is a list of the agenda for the event on June 5th. NCDA&CS Pesticide Credits are available. Awaiting confirmation is credits from the NC Landscapers Contractors Board.

Arrival and Registration: 12:30 p.m. – 12:55 p.m.

Session 1: Panel Discussion on Biocontrol Methods on Ornamentals: 1:00 p.m. – 1:55 p.m.

Abstract: Biocontrols in landscape and greenhouses are a part of a great integrated pest management program (IPM strategy). This panel discussion aims at teaching attendees about biocontrols and how they might be used in specific settings. Moderating this session will be Stacey Jones of N.C. Cooperative Extension with three industry experts, all of whom are well-versed in the use and application of biocontrols.

Session 2: Managing Plant Nutrition: 2:00 p.m. – 2:55 p.m.

Abstract: Nutritional management is important for proper plant health. Better nutrition can help plants establish quicker, stay healthy, and even become more drought resilient. Brad Thompson will be teaching this session and explaining to growers as an NCDA&CS agronomist how and when to submit a sample for diagnostics.

Session 3: Phytophthora Trials (Methodology, Results, and Discussion): 3:00 p.m. – 3:55 p.m.

Abstract: At some point or another every grower or landscaper will encounter phytophthora in their work. Inga Meadows with NC State Extension has ran trials and researched phytophthora and will be presenting the results of her work.
