Grafting Apple Trees

(Updated: Nov. 14, 2024, 9:37 a.m.)

Grafting is just as much an art as it is a skill, at least, that's how the traditional saying goes! One of the most common methods of grafting trees is through a method called the tongue-and-whip graft. This method is easy for beginners to master to graft compatible apple trees, pear trees, and many more species. It's also a very reliable graft meaning, once mastered, you'll have great success over and over again.

To learn more about grafting apple trees, consider joining one of the Apple Tree Grafting Workshops offered through Randolph County Cooperative Extension. In these sessions, you'll learn hands-on how to graft apple trees to rootstocks through the whip-and-tongue method. You'll get to go home with two (2) apple trees you grafted to take care of!
