Canning Gauge Checks

It's time to check your pressure canner's dial gauge.

Your dial gauge on your pressure canner should be checked every year before canning season starts. Dial gauges can lose accuracy when dropped, bumped, or even during storage. This could lead to under or over processed canned goods. Under processed foods increase the risk of botulism and other unsafe pathogens in your food.

You can have your pressure canner's gauge checked free at your local Extension office. If you are in the Randolph County area, you can contact your FCS Agent at j_holmes@ncsu.edu or 336-318-6007 to schedule a time.
