2024 Summer Fun

Davie County 4-H is offering both day and residential camp programs once again this summer! We’re excited to offer these fun educational learning opportunities for youth in the community. You can see the offerings below.

Bee Camp

Date: June 13
Age as of January 1, 2024: 9 – 18 yrs old
Cost: $15
Times: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Davie County Center and local farm

Description: Get buzzing with our exciting youth bee program! Experience the magic of beekeeping firsthand as we observe beekeepers in action and witness the fascinating work of honeybees in an observation hive. Discover the importance of pollinator plants and learn how to protect and support honeybees and native bees. Join us for an educational adventure that’s sure to create a buzz of excitement!


Farm to Table

Date: June 19
Age as of January 1, 2024: 8 – 12 yrs old
Cost: FREE
Times: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: Davie County Center and local farms
Other Info: Bring a bag lunch. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Pack sun protection (sunscreen, hat, etc.) and a water bottle.

Description: Experience the journey from farm to table with our program sponsored by Davie County Farm Bureau! Join us as we explore local farms, learn about agriculture, and choose fresh ingredients from local produce stands. Back in the kitchen, we’ll transform our bounty into a delicious bite to foster a connection to food and community in an immersive, educational experience.


Firearm Safety and Basic Rifle

Date: June 20
Age as of January 1, 2024: 8 – 18 yrs old

Description: Discover firearm safety and the basics of rifle shooting with .22 rifles in our workshop. Participants will also train with shotguns so smaller youth should be cautious as recoil from shotguns can be wearing. Engage in target shooting to hone skills and reinforce learning in a safe and controlled environment.”


Chef and the Child

Description: Embark on a week-long culinary adventure with our youth cooking class led by professional chefs! We will learn essential cooking techniques to help unleash your creativity in the kitchen. Develop lifelong culinary skills while having fun and savoring delicious dishes.


Basic Shotgun Saftey and Skills

Description: Join our workshop to learn shotgun handling safety, proper shooting techniques, and hitting moving clay targets. While smaller youth are welcome, they should be mindful of the significant recoil impact on their arms. Consider this when registering for the session.


Cloverbud Cooking

Description: Introduce your little chefs to the joys of cooking! Our class focuses on food safety and basic skills through fun, hands-on activities. Ignite their passion for culinary creativity in a safe and nurturing environment.


Advanced Shotgun

Description: Advance your skills in our shotgun workshop! Learn safe handling, proper shooting, and hitting moving clay targets. Note: This is an advanced class; completion of the basic shotgun course is required. Smaller participants should consider recoil impact before signing up.


4-H Investigates

Date: July 16 – 18
Age as of January 1, 2024: 10 -14 yrs old

Location: Pick up and Drop off at Davie County Center with Event at Alamance Community College.

Description: Join Davie 4-H in collaboration with local counties for an immersive experience – the Mock Murder Investigation! In our 4-H Investigates program, youth aged 10-14 delve into forensic science, mastering evidence collection to crack the case. They’ll visit Alamance County courthouse and jail, meet law enforcement officers, sharpen their skills, and unravel mysteries in this thrilling journey of discovery!


Cloverbud Gardening Camp

Description: Welcome to our Cloverbud Gardening class where we will dive into the wonderful world of plants through fun, hands-on activities led by Davie County Master Gardener Volunteers. From exciting crafts to interactive gardening adventures, young learners will explore plant identification, uses, and needs. Join us for a blooming good time as we nurture curiosity and cultivate a love for gardening!

Description: Discover the art of archery in our beginner program designed for youth! Join us to learn the safe and proper use of recurve and compound bows. Led by experienced instructors, learn fundamental techniques and terminology while aiming for bullseyes and 3D targets. It’s an exciting opportunity to develop skills, focus, and precision in a supportive environment. Get ready to hit the mark and unleash your inner archer!


Hunting Skills

Date: July 25
Age as of January 1, 2024: 8 – 18 yrs old

Description: Join our hunting skills class for youth! Learn safe handling of shotguns, rifles, and bows, with a hands-on approach. Topics include firearm safety, wildlife ID, and hunting practices. Participants can bring their own bows but no other firearms. Note: Shotgun recoil may be wearing for smaller youth. Get ready to hone your skills and embrace the thrill of the hunt responsibly!


Youth Gardening Camp

Date: July 30 – August 1
Age as of January 1, 2024: 9 – 13 yrs old
Cost: $60
Times: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Davie County Center and local gardens
Other Info: Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Wear sunscreen. Bring a water bottle.

Description: Join us for an engaging youth gardening class where beginner gardeners will discover the vital role plants play in our lives! Led by Davie County Master Gardener Volunteers, participants will embark on a hands-on journey exploring plant identification, uses, and needs through fun crafts and gardening activities. Get ready to dig in, get your hands dirty, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the natural world around us!


How to Register for Camps:

  1. You must be enrolled in 4-HOnline 2.0 to register for camp. If you have not yet enrolled, please email daviecounty4-h@ncsu.edu.  4-H membership is FREE and is now required to participate in county 4-H programs. If you are not interested in joining a 4-H club, that is no problem. Select “Davie County Members At Large” as your club selection in 4-HOnline.
  2. After completing 4-HOnline enrollment, 4-H staff will approve your initial enrollment, allowing you to see the available camp offerings for Summer 2024.
  3. Log back into your 4-HOnline account and scroll to the bottom to see the summer camp opportunities for this year. **There are several summer opportunities, click on the “event” link on the left side of the page to see the complete list of events.** After choosing your camp event selections, 4-H staff will approve your camp registration(s) based on space availability and payment.
  4. Payment is due before registration is fully secured. **If you are NOT enrolled in Davie County please make checks payable to Davie County 4-H or cash that can be mailed or dropped off at 642 Wilkesboro St. Mocksville, NC 27028.
  5. ONLY after 4-HOnline enrollments have been approved and payment submitted to the 4-H office, are youth formally registered for Summer Fun. Staff are unable to hold spaces for youth who have not completed all registration steps.
