There are some days you plan for months, and then there are days that turn into something even bigger than you imagined.

The Common Ground Festival at the Randolph County Agricultural Center was one of those days.

From the moment the gates opened, people kept coming. Families, neighbors, longtime supporters, and plenty of first-time visitors all made their way onto campus, curious to see what the Agricultural Center had to offer. By the end of the day, more than 5,000 people had visited, and the energy stayed strong from start to finish.

You could feel it everywhere.

In the laughter of kids meeting animals up close for the first time.
In the conversations happening at information tables throughout the building.
In the line that formed early for those well-loved BBQ sandwiches and never really let up. In the way people lingered, taking their time, asking questions, learning, and connecting.

It was a full day in the best way.

Visitors explored exhibits from across the Agricultural Center and learned about everything from agriculture and natural resources to youth programs, food systems, and digital skills. Our partners filled the space with opportunities to engage, share knowledge, and show just how much is happening right here in Randolph County.

Outside, the tractor showcase drew attention all day long. Each one told its own story, whether it had been restored, passed down, or still worked every day. Nearby, animal demonstrations gave families a chance to experience agriculture in a hands-on and meaningful way.

And of course, the food brought people together too.

The BBQ sandwiches brought all the excitement people look forward to each fall, and the apple cider slushies were a hit from beginning to end. It felt like a familiar tradition, just a little earlier in the year.

Events like this do not happen on their own.

They are built by people who care deeply about their community.

We are grateful to the partners who set up information tables and took the time to share what they do. You helped bring the purpose of the Agricultural Center to life in a way people could see and understand.

To our volunteers, thank you for showing up early, staying late, and stepping in wherever you were needed. Your willingness to help made a real difference.

To our staff, thank you for the work you put in behind the scenes and out front. Every detail mattered, and it showed.

And to those who spent months planning and preparing for this day, your work made it all possible.

We also want to thank Randolph County Government and our County Commissioners for their continued support of the Agricultural Center. Their investment in this space made a day like this possible, and the impact was clear throughout the campus.

Most importantly, thank you to the community.

To everyone who came out, brought their families, asked questions, tried something new, and spent part of their day with us, thank you. Your curiosity and willingness to learn are what made this event special.

The Common Ground Festival was more than an open house. It showed what this space can be. A place where agriculture, education, and community come together in a way that feels real and useful.

And this is just the beginning.

We are already looking ahead to next year’s Common Ground Festival, scheduled for May 1, 2027. More details will be shared soon, but for now, go ahead and save the date.
