Hay Bale Decorating Contest

During the NC State Fair, there is usually a hay bale decorating contest. 4-Hers work together to create a theme and decorate their hat bales. They are displayed throughout the fairgrounds. This year Randolph County 4-H is doing our own County contest. If participants choose to disclose their address, they will be part of our Randolph County Hay Bale Trail! There are three different categories: Randolph County Agriculture, Randolph County Pride and Open Class. This contest is open to anyone (youth, adults, families, businesses) in Randolph County. If you are interested in participating, please sign up for the Hay Bale Decorating Contest here. For more information contact Jody Terry at jody_terry@ncsu.edu.

Jody, Allison, Kenny and Blake set up the first hay bale display in downtown Asheboro at the corner of Fayetteville St and Salisbury at the Pinnacle Bank. (Thank you CJ Macon for letting us use your location!).

Our display could fall into either the Randolph County Agriculture Category or Randolph County Pride. Agriculture is our county’s number one industry and we are so proud of that. Our display incorporates animal agriculture and crops. Our county is number one in the state for beef cattle and goats, number two in dairy cattle, number six in broilers aka meat chickens, and number eight in layers aka chickens that lay eggs for us to eat. Our county also grows a lot of corn, soybeans and wheat.

Drive by and take a look! If you want to get out and take your picture, please feel free to do so but please be careful.
