Demonstration and Research Plots in Randolph County, 2020

— Written By and last updated by

We are excited to provide Randolph County farmers with some local field trials for 2020!

First, we are able to test out some new rangeland herbicides from Corteva Agriscience, DuraCor and ProClova. DuraCor is a new broadleaf herbicide that is currently on the market and has a broader spectrum of weed control than Grazon Next. ProClova is scheduled for release January of 2021. ProClova is a herbicide that can be used to protect the population of white clover you may have while controlling broadleaf weeds. We are testing these to get first hand experience with the products and get an idea of their efficacy. Thank you to Corteva for supplying the products and to Windy Hill Farms LLC for providing the location.

The second trial is a research plot in cooperation with NC State Soybean Extension and NC Soybean Producers Association. It is a statewide study to determine the value of a fungicidal seed treatment for protecting stand and yield in NC soybeans. The data from this is local and compliments the statewide data, making it more relevant to Randolph County producers. Thank you to Cox’s Grain Farm for participating in this research.

Our hope is to expand these trials in Randolph County to reach a broader range of interests, to provide more hands on learning, and to benefit as many producers as we can. Although two plots is not record breaking, rest assured that this is just the start of what we are going to accomplish in the future as we better understand your needs! Local data is more powerful for local producers, so please consider participating in future trials.

On-site field days are not currently in the books, but be on the lookout for a virtual field day option! We are working hard to collect information on these plots to provide you with an in depth presentation of the results.
