Randolph County 4-H at the State Fair

Have you visited North Carolina State Fair 2012? This year’s theme, A Bumper Crop of Fun, really makes sense with so many great sites, sounds, and smells packed into the Raleigh fairgrounds! The fair opened Thursday, October 11 and runs through Sunday, October 21. As a division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the fair is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the agricultural roots of our very own Old North State.

One of the highlights for 4-H families is the 4-H Crafts category that is open to 4-H youth in cloverbud, junior and senior categories. Randolph County is always a strong county in both the number and quality of our exhibits. Congratulations to the following youth for having items exhibited at the Education Building on Hillsborough Street this year: Kimberly Chapman, Kaeli Chapman, Sarah Cox, Daniel Ellison, Nathan Ellison, Samantha Ellison, Sarah Hunsucker, Cole Koenig, Mackenzie Koenig, Jesse Osborne, Rachel Osborne, Shenandoah Osborne, Adalynn Parrish, Grayson Roberts, Zoe Roberts, Owen Spencer, Hayden Thomas, Brenton West and Wyatt Yow.

A barn or two of cows, pigs, goats, sheep, turkeys and rabbits (just to name a few) will face the judges – and the public at NC State Fair 2012. Another huge category for Randolph County 4-H is the Turkey Show! Lots of 4-H youth entries with experience and a commitment to excellence have spent all summer raising their poults for this chance to “strut their stuff” (please forgive me) and really put that motto Learn By Doing to the test. The following youth raised turkeys to show at the North Carolina State Fair: Kaley Allred, Garrett Allred, Chris Dunn, Will Dinsmore, Kerri Cox, Elizabeth Moody, Evan Gunter, Preston Long, Joshua Allred, Owen Spencer, Nicole Smith, Kyle Smith, Laura Jessup, Will Cox, Wyatt Cox, Walter Jonson, Allie Johnson, Hayden Thomas, Elizabeth York, Timothy York, Jackson Allred, Josie Allred, Kaitlyn Brady, Nathan Connor, Emery Crotts, Maddie Crotts, Adam Davis, Alex Davis, CJ William Davis, Lane Frazier, Kolby Hollingsworth, Kyle Hollingsworth, Joe Ingold, Chaz Justus, Alexandria Ketison, Sawyer McCollum, Garith McDonald, Cody Millikan, Dekota Shaw, Katie Smith, Jerry Turner, Travis Wood and Elmer York.

We also have 4-H families with entries in several other livestock shows and foods divisions at the fair, we are so proud of everyone! Randolph County boasts a ton of talent mixed with a strong work ethic and a good attitude – what a great recipe for A Bumper Crop of Fun!
