Better Health Comes
From Better Food Workshop

Families are getting healthier with the Better Food Better Health nutrition education program provided by North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension.  Developed in response to the obesity epidemic and the chronic diseases associated with excess weight, particularly type II diabetes, the program works with the whole family, informing, empowering, and motivating adults and children alike to improve their eating and physical activity habits. Better Food Better Health, a Steps to Health program created for limited resource audiences, is a free six-class series taught by North Carolina Cooperative Extension Family & Consumer Science (FCS) Agents. The program includes engaging as well as informative activities for both children and parents. During the classes, participants learn tips for diabetes prevention, how to reduce added sugar intake, ways to include more fruits, vegetables and whole grains into their family meals, how to read nutrition labels, strategies for eating on a budget and saving money, and suggestions for families to be physically active together. Each class also includes a cooking demonstration and taste test of a family and budget friendly, easy, healthy recipe. IInterested in learning more about how to improve your health and the health of your family? Randolph County Cooperative Extension will be offering the program beginning April 23, 2014, 4:30-6:30pm  at the Randolph County Cooperative Extension Office, 112 Walker Ave, Asheboro, NC (behind Asheboro HS).  Contact Laurie Stevens, FCS Agent at  (336)318-6000 to register. Pre-registration is preferred. Steps to Health is a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) program developed and administered by North Carolina State University and federally funded through the USDA.
